Position: Library Science Graduate Intern
Eligibility:
- Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a Masters, or PhD degree in Library & Information Science or related discipline.
Location:Pasadena California

Schedule/Hours: full time (40 hours per week)
Time Frame: Summer internships begin in May and June, on the first business day of each week-Available during 8-12 weeks
Students must be available full time for at least 10-weeks in the summer
Compensation: Participants receive a weekly stipend.
Program participants have the option of living in the Caltech dormitories for the summer guest housing rate. Rates are the discretion of the Caltech Department of Institute Housing and are subject to change.
– Program participants have access to JPL parking facilities for no charge. Public transportation options are also available.

Description:
The JPL Records and Archives Group is responsible for ensuring that JPL meets NASA and Caltech requirements for managing the documents that record the Laboratory’s projects and business. The group makes current and inactive records available for employee use, preserves significant records for future engineers and our Nation’s history. This group also provides a central long-term repository for storage, retrieval, and distribution of JPL documents, records, and drawings in multiple formats
- Paper records management based on JPL Prime Contracts, Records Retention Schedules, ect.
- Metadata cleanup in Paper Records Inventory (PRI)
- Process, digitize and manage Electronic Document Information Management System (EDIMS) & Hardware Build Books
- Processing Instructions for Build, Assemble, and Test (IBATs) and microfilm
- Updating desk instructions
- Make recommendations on improvements based on current scholarship and schools of thought
