The intern will work a total of 200 hours during the six-week period from June 5th to July 14th, 2017. 160 hours will be devoted to completing one or more projects in LET’s Academic Engagement units: the Music Library, Outreach & Partnerships, Public Services and Research & Education Services.  

The remaining 40 hours will be spent in activities that orient the intern to the work culture of the JMU Libraries. This will include meetings with various library faculty and staff and attendance at library meetings. The intern will work 35 hours per week during the six-week program and receive a stipend of $2,000 as well as on-campus housing.

The intern will work on one of two projects:

1) Library Instruction and Outreach: project may include designing library instruction for first year students or improving communication of scholarly communication initiatives through LibGuides and infographics.

2) Data Services: work with the Data Services Coordinator to investigate solutions appropriate to the data needs of the campus. This may include data repository solutions, developing workshop curricula, developing web resources related to data security and others. 

Minimum Qualifications For applicants to be eligible, they should meet the following requirements: 1) Must currently be enrolled (in good standing) or have graduated within the last 12 months from an ALA-accredited master’s program in Library and/or Information Science; and 2) must be able to commit to spending six weeks on-site, from June 5 – July 14, 2017. Classroom preparation or other experience relevant to one or more of the participating units is preferred.
