Position: Archives Intern

Time Frame start date is flexible, but the Project Archivist positin is Full-time (37.5 hours per week), and is expected to work for eight consecutive weeks to begin no earlier than April 1, 2017 and to end no later than December 15, 2017

The Becker Library is seeking applications to fill an 8-week term Project Archivist position in the Archives and Rare Books Department.  The Project Archivist will be tasked with arrangement, description, and digitization of a portion of the library’s archival collection of noted computer scientist Wesley A. Clark.


Working closely with the Archivist at the Becker Library, complete a collection survey of the Wesley A. Clark Papers and prepare a processing plan to meet project deadlines.

With the assistance of the Archivist, the Project Archivist will process the collection according to national archival standards for arrangement and description.  This will include developing, documenting, prioritizing, and administering procedures, policies, and guidelines for the use of materials at the Becker Library, and collection materials made available online.

Re-house items within the collection into acid-free boxes and acid-free folders for long-term preservation.

Prepare an item-level inventory for the photograph series in the collection.

Create a finding aid for the Wesley A. Clark Papers to be added to Becker Library’s archives management system (Archon) for public access.

Add scans of photographs, documents, and other items from the collection to Becker Library’s content management system (CONTENTdm).

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of High School with some college preferred and 2-3 years experience in Library or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a museum, library, or archives environment with responsibility for arranging and describing archival material.

Student applicants having familiarity with and/or formal training in archival management practices and standards (particularly students working on a Master’s in library science, public history, museum studies, or archival administration) are encouraged to apply.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $13.48 – 16.85 per hour.
