Project: Public Library Immigrant Resource Guide
A paid summer internship (8-10 weeks) within the Neighborhood Services Department, Library Division will provide an intern led project resulting in the creation of a Resource Guide specifically designed to assist local immigrants with knowledge of free Manatee County Public Library resource tools.
A unique opportunity for an inquisitive, self-motivated, and service-oriented individual to make a positive impact on the lives of underserved Manatee County residents. The successful intern will complete their project working directly in the supervisory path of an Information Services Librarian located at the Central Library, located in downtown Bradenton, Florida.
A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff concludes the implementation of the project. Important skill sets for this position include but are not limited to; interviewing, researching and collecting appropriate materials in a desirable format to best suit and build relationships with local immigrant communities. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, be flexible and adapt to unexpected changes.
Interns pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Social science preferred, but other majors will be considered. Individuals who are bilingual in English and Spanish or another language, or who have experience with immigrant communities, preferred. General knowledge of library services desired.
Intern II Requirements: Freshman or Sophomore in university. Applicants from all fields, including but not limited to (area of assignment) with a strong interest in public service or public administration are welcome to apply. Jobs that fall into this level require some exposure to or familiarity with area of assigned duties. Valid driver’s license may be required.
Intern III Requirements: Pursuing Bachelor’s degree desired. Applicants from all fields, including but not limited to (area of assignment) with a strong interest in public service or public administration are welcome to apply.
