College Summer Stacks Worker

Main Library Circulation Stacks workers do general maintenance of the Main Library and Storage facility (Carnegie) collections over the summer. This includes shelving, shifting, and cleaning the collections, and moving books among the branches.

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week) summer job with hours TBD, Monday – Friday beginning May 22 and continuing until at least August 18. You may arrange up to 2 weeks of time off.

There’s a possibility of continuing part-time in the fall semester if positions become available.


The primary responsibilities include:

shelving library materials in the Main Library

shifting the collection (re-organizing) to allow for growth, which will involve moving large numbers of books in the Main Library and Carnegie

maintenance of the collection; e.g. cleaning and assessing the condition of materials

delivering materials to the branch libraries

Working outside and in non-air conditioned areas is part of the job.


Must be dependable and punctual

Must be attentive to detail

Must be able to follow written and oral instructions

Must be able to lift and move large quantities of books

Must be able to work quickly and efficiently with minimal supervision

Must be able to complete tasks independently and as part of a team

Must be able to write/print legibly

Familiarity with Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal call numbers preferred.
