The NASA Goddard Library, which supports the information and research needs of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, is offering internships for the Summer 2017 term. Intern(s) will join the Digital Projects Team to assist with routine and special projects relating to metadata and cataloging, information frameworks, and the Goddard Institutional Repository (www.gsfcir.gsfc.nasa.gov) — a series of collections related to the research and knowledge output of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
Students will work with our team to enhance our digital repository’s collections and get hands-on experience with metadata work. In particular, the project this summer will focus on thesaurus construction to help establish an authoritative list of NASA mission names
Preferred Qualifications –
Currently enrolled in a Masters of Library Science, Masters of Information Science, or related graduate-level program. –
Specialization and/or focus in digital libraries, digital curation, information systems, or digital collections – Enthusiasm for library and digital repository metadata –
Knowledge of or familiarity with major descriptive metadata schemas (Dublin Core, MADS, METS, etc.) – Strong interest in metadata in XML structures –
Strong interest in linked data concepts and RDF formats – Enthusiasm for NASA missions and programs
