Maker Studios Intern: The Clearwater Public Library System is looking for someone who can bring innovation, creativity, and energy to our makerspace internship program. During your internship you will gain hands-on library program experience and receive training on a range of technologies by supporting the four Maker Studios located at the Main Library in downtown Clearwater: the Creation Studio for Arts & Design, the Discovery Studio of Creative Learning, the Innovation Studio of Technology & Business (includes a multimedia production studio), and the Heritage Studio of Community Memory.
During your internship you will have the opportunity to use, develop, and learn new skills: each Studio has a unique focus so you’ll have a chance to use sewing machines, learn to code, run a 3D printer, produce videos, fly a drone, and digitize photos, for example. You will work as a member of our staff providing service to the community, technology and craft training and instruction, and come up with creative ways to assess and improve our current programs. You will also have the opportunity to develop and execute hands-on programs that match your interests and our community’s needs. Additionally, there will be opportunities to develop digital initiatives to promote the library’s digitized archives and historical collections.

Computer Help Intern: The Computer Help Intern works with volunteers and library staff at five Clearwater library locations to assist patrons with the use of smartphones, tablets, ereaders, laptops, software and databases during drop-in Computer Help labs; setting up class laptops; staying current with emerging technologies; tracking and reporting program attendance; and other associated projects, such as creating and updating e-reader and other technology tutorials. This intern may also assist at the Reference Desk and with other projects as required.
Archival Intern: The archival intern works on the digitization of Clearwater Public Library System’s historical collections, including the Clearwater Sun archive, city and local history collections, and the emerging Clearwater Community History collection. Typical activities include scanning archival materials; tagging and cataloging materials using metadata protocols via contentDM for PinellasMemory; using Adboe Acrobat to process digital files. Other responsibilities include responding to patron research/obituary requests using the microfilm reader and Reference Desk assistance as needed.
- Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program or have graduated within the last 12 months.
- Library science student are encouraged to apply, but a library background is not required for these positions.
- Comfortable working with a diverse population of library patrons, including children and older adults.
- Patience and good customer service.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to clearly communicate.
- A genuine enjoyment for learning new skills.
