The National Park Service’s Lake Superior Collection Management Center is a full-service museum and archives collection management provider for three national park units: Isle Royale National Park, Keweenaw National Historical Park, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. These three park units preserve and interpret important aspects of the Lake Superior region’s prehistory; aboriginal and settlement history; maritime, commercial fishing, mining, labor, and industrial history; bedrock and glacial geology; and Lake Superior, inland lake and stream, and forest ecosystems. These three national park units provide today’s visitors a Northwood’s escape into history, nature, and recreation.

Schedule/Hours: This position is a full time position, when academic schedule has a brake for the season and/or our agency and student will agree on a formally-arranged schedule of school and work that does not interfere with the student’s academics or performance.You may be required to work weekends.

Time Frame:  The anticipated Entrance on Duty (EOD) May 2017.

Compensation $32,844.00 to $42,702.00 / Per Year

Description:

Provides reference service to archival researchers in person and remotely, documents use of collections, and provides archival duplication services to researchers.
Processes (arranges and describes) archival collections, catalogs archival collections, and produces finding aids for archival collections.Freeze-treats, cleans, rehouses, inventories, and accessions incoming archival and other museum collections.
Serves as a team member on other archival and museum collection management tasks and projects along with other collections management staff.This position is located in Calumet, Michigan, at the Lake Superior Collection Management Center, a full-service museum and archives collection management provider for three national park units: Isle Royale National Park, Keweenaw National Historical Park, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. These three park units preserve and interpret important aspects of the Lake Superior region’s prehistory; aboriginal and settlement history; maritime, commercial fishing, mining, labor, and industrial history; bedrock and glacial geology; and Lake Superior, inland lake and stream, and forest ecosystems.  These three national park units provide today’s visitors a Northwood’s escape into history, nature, and recreation. The purpose of this position is to perform a full range of complex archival support work, with an emphasis on providing reference service at the Lake Superior Collection Management Center.  Some limited travel may be required.

Qualifications:

Student Program Eligible, living or attending school in the area of Calumet, Houghton, Michigan.

To be eligible for a Pathways Program internship, you must meet the following requirements:
•You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on at least a half-time basis with a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).
•Enrollment must be with an accredited educational institution or state-approved home school. These may include high schools, colleges, universities, technical; trade, vocational or business schools and state approved home school secondary and post-secondary programs.
