Time Frame: at least 10 weeks (or until the pilot project is completed).
Description: Summer Digitization Project Archivist position available at the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles (JFGLA) located at 6505 Wilshire Blvd. It’s a pilot project where the candidate will be digitizing scrapbooks of influential JFGLA lay-leaders with the goal of making them available to the public through a virtual exhibit of some sort. Depending on the candidate’s experience, this position will pay $20 – $25/hour and is full-time (the stakeholder wants this project done as soon as possible!). The candidate will mainly be working with a Historian of Los Angeles Jewry who aids in providing context to the collection. Position will begin as soon as possible and last for at least 10 weeks (or until the the pilot project is completed).
This position requires the candidate to make decisions independently and thus will not be suitable for those who need supervision and/or direction. Candidate must also have previous experience working on digital projects (managing workflow, digitizing according to standards, making materials accessible to the public, applying user experience design to interfaces etc). Basic knowledge of Jewish Culture is a bonus but NOT a requirement.
