Position: Collections Processing Internship: Conservation Assessment Survey Team
Eligibility Applicants should be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s program in Museum Studies or a related subject, such as conservation.

The National Air and Space Museum’s Collections Processing Unit is working on a multi-year project to assess the condition of small and medium sized artifacts currently housed at the Paul E. Garber Facility in Suitland, Maryland. This is in preparation for the move of these artifacts to new storage space at the National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia
Schedule/Hours full-time (40 hours per week) internship.
Time Frame 18-week/five month internship. Starting in September and ending in January, with dates subject to intern availability.
Compensation: The intern will receive a stipend of $10,000 for the 18-week internship
Description: The intern will have the opportunity of participating in the project to learn about condition assessments and material identification as well as gaining an overview of the Garber move project. Artifact handling, awareness of collections management database systems, ability to work well in a team environment and independently, knowledge and skills in creating interior and exterior storage mounts, and familiarity with power tools.
The intern will learn about all aspects of collections management including: condition reporting, correct artifact handling, creation and design of interior and exterior storage mounts, creation of handling trays, updating information in The Museum System (TMS), and assisting with the review of registration data as it impacts the survey team.
