Position: Digital Imaging Support Internship

The internship will be located at Smithsonian Institution’s Museum Support Center in Suitland Maryland, which is accessible either by the free Smithsonian staff shuttle or Metro.
Schedule/Hours Schedule is flexible-two days (15 hours) per week
Time Frame 10 week internship begin on Monday, September 17th and end officially on November 28th
Compensation: stipend of $2,000
Description: The National Anthropological Archives (NAA) is seeking an intern to help with collections digitization two days (15 hours) per week. The Digital Imaging Support Intern will have the opportunity to engage in all three aspects of this project, resulting in a well-rounded base of experience in archival collections digitization practices. The intern will report to Daisy Njoku (Media Resources Specialist for the NAA) and work under the guidance of Haley Bryant (Digitization Specialist for the NAA). The goal of this internship is to digitize at least three boxes of the Ted Carpenter papers (insert description here), but the intern will have the opportunity to assist with other projects that fall under the digitization umbrella.
Schedule is flexible with the following training opportunities and learning objectives:
Achieve proficiency in the Smithsonian Institution DAMS (Digital Asset Management System) including data import, data searching, and embedded metadata
Gain practical experience in archival object handling, to include objects of a variety of sizes, materials, and needs.
Assist with photography and photoshoot planning.
Achieve proficiency in data management standards, to include object tracking, progress tracking, and transfer of digital images.
Assist with object rehousing as needed.
Assist with social media, to potentially include selecting and researching collections objects.
Opportunities to attend additional lectures and workshops as they arise.
